Common questions

Is a room rent agreement legally required in Nepal?

House rent agreements are governed by Chapter 9 of the Muluki Civil Code 2074. A written agreement is what you rely on if there is a dispute over the deposit or notice, so it is worth having even where nobody insists on one. Registering the signed copy at your ward office is optional but sensible.

How much notice must a tenant or landlord give in Nepal?

At least 35 days' written notice, from either side. That is set by the Muluki Civil Code 2074 and applies whether or not your agreement mentions it.

What must a Nepali rent agreement contain?

The full name, address and citizenship number of both parties, the location of the property, what it is being rented for, the start date, the duration, the monthly rent and when it is due, and who pays which utilities.

How long can a rent agreement last in Nepal?

A residential tenancy may not exceed five years. One year is the most common term, renewed by agreement.

Is this agreement free to use?

Yes, and nothing you type is sent anywhere. The document is produced in your own browser and printed from it, so no citizenship numbers or phone numbers reach us.
